Meet Your Counselor

Allison Steinwand, MS, LPC-MH, QMHP, PMH-C is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) and Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP), located in Sioux Falls South Dakota. Allison’s approach to being a therapist is to be there for a client, much like she would be there for a friend. She enjoys offering support, empathy and a neutral, unbiased perspective. If a client would like something beyond talk-therapy, Allison can provide a more integrated approach and support a client by teaching breathwork, yogic postures/poses or other helpful mind-body work.

Life Transitions

From changing careers to starting a family; life transitions often come with enjoyable experiences as well as challenges. Often times, we can navigate through these easily but sometimes it can be helpful to have some additional support. Allison enjoys helping clients through these times by assisting them to find more clarity in the direction they wish to go.

Anxiety

When anxiety becomes too much, this often can lead to mental, emotional and physical challenges that make everyday life difficult to manage. Allison helps clients through offering various interventions including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and mindfulness techniques that can support them in retraining their brain and nervous system to change negative thinking patterns and to quickly soothe anxious feelings when they arise.

Trauma and PTSD

One often will develop Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) after experiencing a traumatic event that they perceive is outside of their ability to cope. Allison can support clients in working through and healing from these experiences. Allison offers various treatment options and approaches depending on what works best for each individual. These often are a combination of cognitive and body-based approaches.

Pregnancy and Postpartum

After experiencing challenges herself, Allison decided to pursue a specialty in this area and now has a Perinatal Mental Health Certification (a.k.a. Postpartum Depression) to work with individuals who are pregnant or postpartum and are experiencing mental health challenges. This time in life can often be the most beautiful, happy... and also the most trying. Whether it’s mental health challenges that arise or learning how to cope with parenthood in a world that is not always supportive, she can offer empathy, validation, support and guidance.
